EUGENE HALLIDAY

The talk begins with a quotation from Socrates: “Virtue is knowledge and the person necessarily acts upon the knowledge that they have.”
Eugene asks his audience: “Do you believe it?” The answer is “No.” He then asks: “If you had absolute knowledge and knew everything, could you then disobey it?” (mixed responses of Yes/No)
He says this is an old argument between the Dominicans and the Franciscans. Why we do not act upon the knowledge we have is our life’s work.

Reproduction occurs by cell-division from our first ancestor, and we all share the same number of chromosomes, therefore our essential qualities are identical with those of the first egg. That primordial egg came into being from the forces of cosmos. We have evolved within a solar system, which evolved from a universal power, which came from an infinite field of power. Therefore, “self-division is an inherent tendency of the Original, Infinite Power.” The word ‘tendency’ means movement towards some objective. When energy contracts onto a point, this is a stress which causes a strain elsewhere. Contraction is contra-action, so stress and strain are logically unavoidable. This original quality of the cosmic energy, to contract and expand, was posited in that first human egg. With cell-division, this quality is passed on to every subsequent generation. We see this in the egotism of humans; the tendency to focus on myself as an individual, “is really the product of a cosmic self-precipitation.” This tendency to fall onto centres can be seen in every created thing; even rocks. This contraction onto centres requires an opposite expansion, so every thing appearing in existence as a stress must expand again into its prior state. i.e. every living thing must die. This opposite tendency of contraction and expansion is the cause of all vibrations in the universe. The energy “alternates between compressing, producing points, which are individuals, and then stretching these points out of existence.” To exist is to stand out but when we are not existing we return to the field.
